How we do this.
The graduated approach:
At bridge training we follow the core principles of the graduated approach. This is a cyclical process that is reviewed regularly and repeated as often as necessary to ensure the needs of the student are effectively met.
Steps of the graduated approach:
- Assess – Identify and understand learner’s needs through observation and the gathering of relevant information.
- Plan – Develop a clear plan outlining agreed outcomes and the support or strategies to be put in place.
- Do – Implement the plan strategies and support.
- Review – Conduct regular and consistent reviews to evaluate what is working, what is not, and whether support should be continued, adapted, or changed.
This cycle is repeated as required to ensure the right support is provided at the right time.
Identify – Information gathering.
During applications we seek additional information regarding prior learning, documentation of send or support needs.
- During visits, initial meetings with parents/carers.
- Send transition dependent on the learner.
- Previous support plans, my plans, my plan plus or an educational and healthcare plan (EHCP).
- Meetings with previous placements.
We encourage learners and parents / carers to share information as early as possible to support can be arranged in good time.
Support – tailored to each learner.
- Small group learning
- Support during lessons.
- Help with English and Maths.
- Assistive technologies and resources.
- Opportunities for exam access arrangements.
- Reasonable adjustments.
- Pastoral and well-being support.
- Holistic assessment to develop effective support plans including a neurodiversity assessment tool.
- Reasonable adjustments- agreed with the learner and reviewed regularly.
